Anti-Wrinkle Efficacy Evaluation

Creative Biogene Zebrafish Platform offers skin anti-wrinkle efficacy evaluation on Zebrafish for cosmetic products, which strictly comply with the requirements of the cosmetic management specifications, and we provide reliable cosmetic efficacy evaluation reports.

Wrinkles are common signs of aging, including visible lines, creases, or folds that appear on the skin's surface. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of many causes, such as:

  • Reduction of elastin and collagen: Elastin and collagen are essential proteins that play a vital role in maintaining the skin's support and elasticity. However, as we grow older, the production of these proteins decreases, resulting in a decline in skin firmness and the formation of wrinkles.
  • Skin dehydration: As we grow older, dehydration becomes more prevalent, resulting in dryness and the emergence of wrinkles.
  • Free radical damage: Exposure to environmental factors like UV radiation or pollution can trigger the occurrence of free radical damage. These unstable molecules have the potential to damage skin cells, resulting in premature aging and the formation of wrinkles.
  • Facial expression: Dynamic wrinkles, also referred to as expression lines, are caused by the contraction of facial muscles during various facial expressions. Over time, these repetitive movements contribute to the formation of lines, such as crow's feet and forehead wrinkles.

Our Zebrafish-based Anti-Wrinkle Efficacy Evaluation

  • Inhibition rate of caudal fin shrinkage

One of the causes of wrinkles in human skin is the reduction of collagen and elastin in the skin structure. Zebrafish skin structure is similar to human skin, and excessive UV radiation can cause a decrease in collagen and elastin in the skin, resulting in shrinkage of the caudal fin. At Creative Biogene, we treat the zebrafish with cosmetics and calculate the inhibition rate of caudal fin shrinkage to evaluate the anti-wrinkle efficacy of the cosmetics.

  • Type I collagen expression

Collagen plays a crucial role in maintaining the firmness and elasticity of the skin, acting as a supportive matrix or mattress. Type I collagen is the main collagen found in the skin, representing 80%-90% of skin collagen. However, collagen production declines with age, so finding a solution to this problem has been strongly advocated as an effective way to change the appearance of wrinkled skin. In tetrapods, type I collagen is encoded by Col1a1 and Col1a2 genes, respectively. In contrast, three collagen type I genes exist in zebrafish, which are Col1a1a, Col1a1b, and Col1a2 coding for α1(I), α3(I), and α2(I) chains. At Creative Biogene, we evaluate the anti-wrinkle efficacy of cosmetics by the gene expression of type I collagen.
