Freckles, those tiny, flat, brownish spots that appear on the skin, are caused by an increase in the amount of melanin pigment in the skin cells. They usually emerge on the face, arms, and shoulders, and can be a source of cosmetic concern for some people. Undesirable freckle problems make freckle removal products with safety and effectiveness a continuous challenge and interest in the cosmetic industry.
Danio rerio, commonly known as zebrafish, is a well-studied model organism characterized by its small size, rapid maturation, short life span, large number of offspring, and easy manipulation. One of the most interesting features of zebrafish is that it is transparent during the early stages of development. Melanin can be observed on the zebrafish surface, allowing simple observation of the pigmentation process.
Our Zebrafish-based Freckle Removal Efficacy Evaluation
During the larval phase, zebrafish display translucent skin, enabling precise observation of melanin production on their body surface. At Creative Biogene, we assess the effectiveness of freckle removal by meticulously analyzing melanin distribution. Initially, zebrafish embryos undergo treatment with your cosmetic products and are then incubated for a specific duration. Subsequently, we meticulously examine melanin formation in the treated zebrafish embryos under a microscope. Finally, we utilize advanced image analysis software to quantify the melanin content, thereby determining the inhibitory effect on melanin production.
